1976"I arranged to meet my dad for a pint one night, in the village boozer," our subject reveals in his audio commentary.
"I said: 'Dad I've got great news. I've got a job at the BBC.' He said: 'I'll tell you what I've always told you about getting a job. No matter what happens, no matter what you think a job's about just make yourself useful.'"
Our subject added that this piece of advice is now "what I always tell anyone who comes into the office these days". Taken in the Stag's Head pub in New Cavendish Street, London, UK.
