1874"When I was a teenager I was always very confident about what I wanted to do. I always wanted to be a journalist. But I dont think I realised how lucky I was in being able to pick any career I wanted out of a hat.
My mum is very selfless, she was a stay-at-home mum for a few years, but was a teacher beforehand. When I was a teenager she said this to me. And most women in the 70s who werent super intelligent or super rich or super lucky had those options as well. Maybe a secretary as well.
I am a feminist and you always forget about what the women before you have done. You know theyve given up a lot but you dont really realise it that much until they put it in that context. Being an intelligent woman and being told well, this is all I can do it must have been dreadful. It still sticks with me now and I realise how lucky I am.
Taken in a café near Goodge Street, London, UK.
