I was excited to hear those words, mostly because I've made so many jokes to other people about wanting an implant -of some kind- now I get to actually have one of my very own.
Earlier this year I got my first crown: a replacement for a problem back molar that's been deteriorating for years. There wasn't anything left of the tooth, the nerves had died, I had the root canal and the crown was the last step in saving the roots and remaining part of the tooth.
This morning on my way to do volunteer work at my town's local senior center, I bit down on a stick of gum, chewed a couple of times, and felt this awesome sucking sensation and a pop. I felt the gum with my tongue and realized with a little bit of dread, I had pulled out the entire crown. It wasn't until the crown was in my hand that I noticed it had pulled out bits of my remaining tooth/root structure too (parts my dentist had tediously built up in order to put the crown there in the first place.)
"So now, I'm sucking the back of my mouth, where this "hole" is, where a tooth should be, thinking about my soon to be dental implant: the ultimate fake tooth. Maybe I'll be able to set off airport metal detectors for real now (at least I'll be able to say I'm a metal-head.)
*no sketch book paper for the someone once told me confession. . .I've sketched myself out. The paper plate resource will have to do. http://www.flickr.com/photos/thiswasmeantforyou
