“But it basically implies that if you haven’t done something before, if nobody has ever done anything like it before, you don’t know how to do it wrong.

“So if you don’t do it poorly the first time, you’re never going to do it. So I encourage my chemistry students to not be afraid of doing something, even poorly, because one never knows what success may be coming out of that.”
