2113This is the singer Sophie Garner, who came all the way down from Northampton to London, just to have her SOTM photo taken. She wanted it done in the East End, as that is where her family, and grandmother in particular, come from.

Of her SOTM, she says in her audio clip that: “My grandmother told me this. She was born in the East End, in Bow, by Bow Bells. This was something that she had written on a piece of paper in her funny handwriting above the light swich.

”When I used to go over and stay, I’d ask her what it meant. She said it means you’re happy with your lot, even if it is a bit difficult.. Every time I went there I’d get her to say it and it’s almost become some kind of Buddhist chant. Something that I feel we need to live by. My nan’s dead now and it’s something I repeat, it’s something that I tell other people. It’s my mantra now, and she lives through me because of that.”
