1014Agnes Radier Swamba, from Kenya, chose this very wise piece of advice for her Refugee Week SOTM. She explained: "My mother always advised me that never mary a married man, its better to be a first wife, instead of becoming a second or third wife.
"In our culture, men mary many times in their lives, but only the first wife has authority and respect, in the clan. Rest of the wives are not recognised, in case of husbands death or even during his life. Only the first wife counts, rest of them are just a pleasure and nothing else in the long run. Husband soon gets fedup with them and then they dont have any position in family or community."
